Both Vex Armor and Elemental Ward provide ADDITIVE bonuses. They do not multiply base armor or weapon damage. As such, any weapons built for usage with Chroma should not use serration or similar mods, since a greater benefit is gained from standard 90% elementals and multishot mods. In addition, If you want significantly more tankiness, your best bet is to use survivability arcanes like Arcane Grace, coupled with Adaptation. Adaptation effectively multiplies the effects of your fully buffed armor, while something like Umbral Fiber will only add a negligible amount to it. Lastly, if you're going boss hunting with a sniper, the Dead Eye aura will provide a far greater damage boost than Steel Charge or Growing Power. If not a weapon specific aura or Growing Power, then your best all around auras will be something like Corrosive Projection or Enemy Radar.

One additional recommendation is that no Chroma should go without a Pax Bolt kitgun. The buff makes energy management for all skills much more comfortable and the power strength buff persists so long as you don't allow vex to drop off.
